Running for Salmon, Water and Life

The other day I had the privilege of helping out a local Native American tribe, the Winnemem Wintu, in a weeks long event they’re putting on to raise awareness for their way of life, to “bring home” the salmon that are nearing extinction in California, and raise awareness about water issues. It’s a BIG topic and a very small tribe. Since they are local to my area, and since I want to be of service to Native people where I can, Continue reading “Running for Salmon, Water and Life”

Song of the Day

I truly love Fall, and harvest time, and would love to live in a place where we could have a “Wicker Man” bonfire…but alas, I’m in California, where thoughts are as close as we dare come this time of year (and no, Burning Man doesn’t count.)
Enjoy the video facsimile of the spirit of Fire….

The New Species Begins to Emerge

OK. It’s officially “a thing”.  I have a problem with Festival days. screen-shot-2016-09-25-at-3-22-36-pm

No, really, like ‘knots in my stomach and avoidance’ kind of problem. I’ve blamed it on lethargy, laziness or being contrary, and blamed last Samhain’s really strange energy on some disturbing news I had just gotten about one of my Ancestral lines, but after several more Festival days and several more bouts of avoidance, it finally came to some sort of real awareness today.  And I think I can see something emerging. We All Go to Harvest

At Alban Elfed (Autumnal Equinox) day and night are in balance. img_6731The Earth is offering up her gifts; berries, nuts, seeds-things that will get us through the Winter, things that hold more energy than other foods.

All of the animals and insects are harvesting. The squirrels are carrying away what few acorns we have this year, the sheep are eating them too. The birds are eating seeds from our primrose, and the bees are stocking up on the pollen from the rosemary, alyssum and tulsi flowers. The geese have been flying overhead, southward, in huge flying V’s.

Here on our farm we’re harvesting grapes, almonds, Continue reading “We All Go to Harvest”

Song of the Day

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field.  I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.”  -Rumi

Upcoming Topics: Cultural Healing & a New Species of Druid

The subtitle of this blog is “Druidry, Animism & Cultural Healing in America”, file9111254668280which seems like a very big range of subjects, and it is, but I guess it’s because what I believe doesn’t fit neatly into one small box, so I will be writing about multiple topics. Especially the “cultural healing” and “America” parts.

The cultural healing part is really twofold. There is so much that needs work in America Continue reading “Upcoming Topics: Cultural Healing & a New Species of Druid”

How a Druid Gets a Guru, Part 3

The final part of my story of my odd path as a Druid with a Guru.

Recently I reposted a couple of blog posts from several years ago (and another iteration of my blog) about my introduction to my “Guru” Neem Karoli Baba, and so I wanted to catch up, with how this has all panned out in the last three and a half years.
I have to say, I’ve never been one to join organized religions-I did one and it really didn’t work out well. With all respect to those who find joy and nourishment in their faiths, the religion I was a part of (a branch of Christianity) was filled with egos, pushiness, misogyny, Continue reading “How a Druid Gets a Guru, Part 3”
