The Face of Hate

Nazis at illegal march through UVA campus, Friday night.

“I’ve been an activist 50 years. I have never seen that kind of hatred in the eyes of my fellow citizens. Never.” – Dr Cornel West

I am deeply, deeply disturbed by what happened this weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. DEEPLY disturbed. And I can not be silent. No it’s not the first incident and no it won’t be the last. Yes, Nazis are still with us, and yes, hate has always been with us.

Somehow, this is just a line for me personally. I can not keep quiet. Why? Because the photo above scares the living HELL out of me. I agree with Cornel West. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. That is the face of hate.  That is the face of men who have every thing possible in this country except one thing. Gratitude.
And I can not be silent because they can not win.

We wonder what to do. Continue reading “The Face of Hate”

Serving Earth

All will come again into its strength:
the fields undivided, the waters undammed,
the trees towering and the walls built low.
And in the valleys, people as strong and varied as the land.

And no churches where God
is imprisoned and lamented
like a trapped and wounded animal.
The houses welcoming all who knock
and a sense of boundless offering
in all relations, and in you and me.

No yearning for an afterlife, no looking beyond,
no belittling of death,
but only longing for what belongs to us
and serving earth, lest we remain unused.

~ Ranier Maria Rilke ~

About the Rose

I have chosen to go by my real first name, but to preserve some privacy, have chosen a different other name…surely not the last one I will have. Isabel was not my birth name either, but was given to me by my ancestors…. Now I am Isabel Rose.

Why the rose?
Well there’s the Tudor Rose, symbol of Unity from my Welsh Tewdwr/Tudur ancestors that combines the White Rose symbol of the English House of York and the Red Rose smybol of the English House of Lancaster into one unified symbol…(Cymru am byth!!)

The rose and her sisters are a gentle bunch. They are soothing (rosewater/rose hydrosol is one of my very favorite substances on earth!), sexy as heck and beautiful, not to mention smell amazing and they’re frequently edible! When I moved to my current land, I planted many. They bring me joy!

But the reason I like the rose, is besides it’s ubiquity, is that for me, it is a unique plant-oriented substitute for the pentagram.

Sustainability of Self – Living Joy Now

I am having to reset my priorities lately, in a big way. Primarily because I have been experiencing some real depression and looked around to see I really do not have enough JOY in my life.

IMG_7653The biggest change I’m making is cutting out the use of social media as much as possible, except to keep up with very close family and a few teachers. It’s eating my life and it’s completely unsustainable.

I don’t mean unsustainable in a farming kind of way, I mean in my BODY and my MIND.  The more things we “Like” and the more people we follow or friend, the more we have to read. The more rants, whiny posts (and oh I’m so guilty), the more political vomit, the more anger and victimhood and woe-is-me because the world is coming to and end and… NO. Just NO. Stop the bus, I’m getting off. Ferrealz.

Song of the Day

I truly love Fall, and harvest time, and would love to live in a place where we could have a “Wicker Man” bonfire…but alas, I’m in California, where thoughts are as close as we dare come this time of year (and no, Burning Man doesn’t count.)
Enjoy the video facsimile of the spirit of Fire….

No seriously, It’s a whole other level of bad-ass!
